The Story of Spring
My name is Wasan (วสันต์). In my native Thai, it means ‘Spring.’ For me, Spring isn’t just a season. It is nature’s way of signalling a fresh start. It is the time when the world wakes up from the long, cold and quiet wait of winter. Everything that was dormant or “stuck” begins to grow, revive, and find new energy. It’s a reflection of my own journey. Like the season itself, I have learned the power of renewal—the ability to spring back from challenges, embrace growth, and welcome the “blooming” of a new life.

Roots in Resilience
My journey began on a Spring day in rural Thailand when I was 19. Growing up in one of the least developed areas with limited opportunities and resources, I took it upon myself to teach myself English—a decision that later opened doors I never thought possible. That drive led me to an internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand, where I first gained insight into the complexities of international documentation and global mobility.
During my internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I discovered a visa that would change my life: the Work and Holiday visa. At that time, the process was a true test of resolve. To be one of the first 200 people interviewed for a certification —a mandatory prerequisite at the time before you could even apply for the visa— I had to secure a “Golden Ticket.”
I remember camping out in the parking lot of the Government Complex from 4:00 PM, waiting through the night for the doors to open at 9:00 AM the next morning. That old procedure may be gone, but the feeling of waiting for a life-changing opportunity is something I will never forget. I know what it’s like to want a better future so badly that you’ll wait all night for a chance to claim it.
A Season of New Beginnings
In nature, Spring sees millions of birds migrating toward brighter, more suitable destinations. My life has followed this same rhythm; from the moment I was born in the Spring, the season has consistently marked the pivotal chapters of my journey:
- September 2013: I followed my own migration path and planted my roots in Australia during the height of the Australian Spring.
- Professional Growth: My first full-time job in Australia, as well as a significant chapter of my career in the financial services industry.
- The Journey to PR: It was the beginning of Spring that I applied for my own application for Permanent Residency (PR).
- Legal & Academic Milestones: Continuing this pattern, the Spring marked the start of my current professional role and the commencement of my Juris Doctor (JD) studies, building upon my Graduate Diploma in Migration Law and Practice from UTS.
For me, Spring is more than a date on a calendar; it is a recurring promise of progress and renewal.
